Position Overview
Volunteer Ambassadors play a pivotal role in community engagement, actively promoting Links2Care programs and services, and the importance of volunteerism. Volunteers in this role would attend community events such as farmers markets, cultural events, community gatherings, etc. to represent Links2Care and connect with community members. As a volunteer of Links2Care, the volunteer will actively demonstrate Links2Care values and will promote and support the mission and vision of the agency.
Duties/Activities/Responsibilities:
- Interacts professionally in accordance with Links2Care Code of Conduct and Human Rights Act.
- Maintains complete confidentiality of client information in accordance with Links2Care confidentiality/privacy policy.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
- Pick up and drop off supplies at Links2Care offices (signs, brochures, marketing material, etc.)
- Set up and clean up at events. Stay for the duration of the event time as negotiated with the Volunteer Coordinator
- Engages in friendly conversation with community members, discussing Links2Care programs and services
- Maintains contact with the coordinator, informing them of any questions and/or concerns
- Completes and submits a monthly volunteer time record, along with a brief summary report of the event outcomes.
- Follow up with coordinator regarding any community member questions, concerns, or garnered at the event.
- Make suggestions for improvements to community table as necessary. Your input is valuable.
- Maintains calmness in emergencies, with an ability to assist in a crisis.
- Participates in annual volunteer survey.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Has strong customer service skills.
- Comfortable engaging with community members and speaking in a public setting.
- Able to engage all attendees with dignity and respect.
- Organized, responsible, reliable and punctual.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interact, listen and communicate clearly with others in a professional, courteous and pleasant manner.
- Willingness to assist others in a non-judgmental manner with patience and understanding.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 year(s) or older.
- A minimum of a 6–12-month commitment to the program.
- Must be able to carry L2C material and equipment up to 50lbs. Foldable trolleys will be made available to assist with carrying items.
- Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Has access to a safe and appropriate vehicle, which is adequately insured with a minimum of 1 million dollars of liability.
- Ability to drive anywhere in Halton Region as needed for community events
- Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to start date and throughout volunteer duration as required by Links2Care.
- Flexible availability considered an asset. Events take place during evenings, weekends and weekdays.
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers should be available to attend a minimum of 3 events throughout the year. Volunteers can choose which events they will attend
Boundaries and Limitations:
- Does not discuss or participate in any financial decisions.
Working Conditions:
- The volunteer will be working with little to no supervision from Links2Care staff
- Community events may take place indoors or outdoors, depending on venue. Volunteers encouraged to prepare for any weather. It is recommended volunteers carry a personal water bottle and wear sunscreen (as needed).
Orientation/Training and Benefits:
- Orientation to agency programs and policies and ongoing support and training are provided.
- Program specific information and training will be provided.
