The Home Maintenance & Repair Referral (HMR) program is a referral service designed to assist adults over the age of 65, as well as adults with disabilities (18+), in the Halton Region, Mississauga, and South Etobicoke. The program helps clients maintain their independence by connecting them with reliable handypersons who can perform small-scale home maintenance tasks. These services are available for a fee and can be scheduled as one-time appointments or on a regular basis. Services include:
Indoor Tasks
- Small interior painting jobs
- Minor general repairs
- Safety bar and handrail installation
- Organizing
- Packing/unpacking
- Cleaning floors/walls
- Cleaning stoves/fridges
- Heavy cleaning
- Seasonal cleaning
- Blind/drapery/picture hang
- Carpet Cleaning
Outdoor Tasks
- Eavestrough cleaning
- Spring/fall garden and yard clean up
- Spring/fall garden and yard preparation
- Lawn mowing
- Edging/weeding/pruning/raking leaves/planting gardens/mulching/fertilizing/trimming shrubs
- Window cleaning for apartment or 1 story level home
- Replacing door locks and window catches
- Installing screens and storm windows
- Installing weather stripping around doors
- Snow removal (driveway and walkway clearing)
- Window air conditioning unit installation or removal

Apply as a Provider (Handyperson)
Providers are reliable individuals who enjoy working outside and lending a helping hand to seniors in their community! Providers receive client referrals from Home Maintenance & Repair Program Leader in designated a service area (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Acton, Mississauga, & South Etobicoke) and are responsible to contact clients directly to coordinate service. Task details and payment are arranged between clients and providers directly.
