Before & After School Program Assistant


Position Overview

The Before and After School volunteer will assist staff in providing care for school aged children (JK and SK to grade 5). As a volunteer of Links2Care, the volunteer will actively demonstrate Links2Care values and will promote and support the mission and vision of the agency.

Duties/Activities/Responsibilities:

  • Interacts professionally in accordance with Links2Care Code of Conduct and Human Rights Act.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of client information in accordance with Links2Care confidentiality/privacy policy.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Interact and engage with children in activities that take place both inside and outside of the school (playground).
  • Provide support to the children and staff during snack time.
  • Participates in annual volunteer survey.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact and engage with children.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Be friendly and courteous.
  • Ability to interact, listen and communicate clearly with others in a professional, courteous and pleasant manner.
  • Willingness to assist others in a non-judgmental manner with patience and understanding.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with young children would be an asset.
  • Proof of up-to-date immunization records with fit for work letter from family doctor.
  • Completion of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to start date and throughout volunteer duration as required by Links2Care. (if over the age of 18)

Boundaries and Limitations:

  • Not allowed to be left alone with Children. Supervisor must always be present.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a school environment either in a classroom, gym or outside.
  • Stands for extended periods of time
  • Lift/carry items up to 20 lbs. (i.e. program supplies)

Orientation/Training and Benefits:

  • Orientation to agency programs and policies and ongoing support and training are provided.
  • Program specific information and training will be provided.
  • An opportunity to give back to the community and gain work experience.
  • Be a valued member of a team.
  • Accumulate community involvement hours for high school if applicable.
